on The Fishing Highway

Bridge Lake is located in the magnificent Interlakes area on Highway 24, along the Fishing Highway, in the South Cariboo region of British Columbia. This tranquil and exquisite area of rolling hills and spruce, fir, pine, aspen and birch forests boasts approximately 150 lakes loaded with rainbow trout, lake trout and kokanee.

While the fishing in the area is famous, this is also ranch country, with plenty of trails for horseback riding and a chance for horseback riding lessons. Some other summer activities are hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, boating and swimming.

Fishing is great in the Cariboo; there are literally thousands of lakes, ponds, and rivers in this region, and the lakes in the Interlakes area are among the best of them. Sheridan Lake and Bridge Lake are the largest of hundreds of lakes dotted along The Fishing Highway 24, the Fishing Highway, which runs roughly (97 km). From Highway 97, the Gold Rush Trail to Highway 5 the Yellowhead Highway.

Bridge Lake has many bays and both large and small islands, offering good fishing for Rainbow trout, lake trout (lake char) and kokanee, as well as ling cod and burbot. The best time for kokanee fishing is June. Spring, which is short and early summer (June and July) is the best time for rainbow trout.

If ospreys and eagles are your kind of bird, you can be sure to find them here. There are no specific spots to view. They're all over the area.

The annual Bridge Lake Rodeo is usually around the Canada Day long weekend. Be sure not to miss it. This sweet little rodeo has family type character and is a must for every resident and visitor to the area.

Bridge Lake is at the center of The Fishing Highway

Highway 24 follows the historic brigade trail, originally used by the Shuswap people as a trade route and later developed by the Hudson's Bay Company in the early 1800s to bring furs down from Northern BC to Fort Kamloops and the Columbia River.

Fishing is famous in this anglers paradise, and resorts in the area cater to dedicated fishing people, boaters and vacationers. The region is also a popular destination for biking, hiking, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing.

The Fishing Highway 24 also provides access to many good backcountry roads, which extend north to Mahood Lake and Wells Gray Provincial Park and south to the Green and Bonaparte Lakes area.

The Fishing Highway 24 is a beautiful and relaxing drive between Little Fort on the Yellowhead Highway 5 and 93 Mile on the Cariboo Highway 97 (leading thru 100 Mile House). The Fishing Highway offers a quieter route for travelers to Kamloops (going south from Williams Lake) or Jasper (going north from Whistler).
